Bristol Palin gave birth to a baby boy: named him Money Bags

Okay, she did not name him Money Bags. Maybe she should have. She named him Trip Easton Mitchell Johnson. However, according to media reports, the parents have been offered bags of money for the first picture - $300,000 or more. My golly. Now Grandma Palin may be able to get a few new items for her wardrobe. Not fair. The rest of us get nothing for the pictures of our children other than nice smiles from the neighbours who take pictures.

With that $300,000, Grandma Palin may be getting few million for a book deal. Palins are in the gold. Sarah Palin can pal around with anyone she wants including Shelly Johnson, the other Grandma, or buy her few doses of oxycontin for her highs. Or Shelly Johnson can sign her own book deal of some sort to write a book of being in-laws to the Palins. Notoriety, thy name is riches.

Gaza is Burning

The killing of innocent civilians is wrong no matter what their nationality is. While Gaza is burning, and hundreds of women and children are dying, George W. Bush is enjoying his holidays in Crawford, Texas. Does he care? It looks he does not. The man has absolutely no conscience. This is no time for blame game. This is the time to put an end to the violence because in the long run it will help no one and bring peace to no one. Bush's licence to kill, that Israel has the right to defend itself, is being used to the hilt. He's using this as a cop-out from displaying any real leadership. That will resolve nothing and only increase bitterness amongst all the parties involved.

As I said before, I do not believe in the killing of the civilians whether they are Israelis or Palestinians, but the violence on the Gaza Strip is excessive. As long as those injustices are there, there is going to be no peace and unfortunately an explosion of the region will take rest of the world with it. It must be stopped and stopped now. That explosion is just smouldering and can happen anytime. You have an unhappy Arab world, especially people of Iraq and other Arab countries. If there is a civilian revolt in these countries, this could either topple the governments and chaos may follow or these governments will feel obliged to take action against the current aggression. It would lead to nothing good.

George W. Bush wake up from the deep slumber and do something

George Dubya Bush's legacy: Part II

Murder and mayhem continues around the world as the side effects and after effects of the Bush doctrine reek their destruction. This while this moron continues to dance away through the remaining days of his disastrous eight years. The US has no moral authority to stop anyone from invasion of neighbours as it set the example of invading Afghanistan and Iraq. This cowboy never understood the meaning of the word diplomacy. He has re-established the law of jungle where "might is right." It is the innocent people dying whether in Afghanistan, Pakistan or the Middle East which is the biggest black spot on our so-called modern society. After the Second World War and the establishment of the United Nations, this was not supposed to happen. But leaders like Bush ensured that United Nations and international laws do not matter and that invasion of sovereign countries and torture would be the order of the day.

Given this world chaos add to it the economic disaster. It does not look good for 2009. One can only hope and pray that Barack Obama and other world leaders will turn the tide and put an end to these unjust wars and economic disaster. One has to live with hope and positive thinking.

We in Canada had fairly enlightened leadership until Reforrrrm guy Stephen Harper came along. Either he must mend his ways or Canadians deserve a better and different government.

Stephen Harper: The Chimp’s Chimp - The Conflict in the Middle East

Is it my misunderstanding or has our "great" leader said nothing on the Israel-Gaza conflict? Is he waiting for his master chimp George W. Bush? Probably he has not received the talking points yet. Or may be he is still contemplating.

"Clean" Coal Technology

I do not understand this "clean coal" hype. What is clean about coal? It sounds like clean and easy asbestos insulation. Ask the folks in Kingston, Tennessee. One billion gallons of coal sludge has escaped from a coal operation. It has devastated the community and surrounding area. Surface water has become polluted and it will not be long before the ground water is polluted too. When this sludge dries up it will release all kinds of pollutants in the air. One reporter described the area, previously lush and green, as a moon surface.

George Dubya Bush’s Legacy – The Grim Reaper

First off, two more Canadian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan bringing the total since Friday to three and the overall total to 106. What for? To please the Grim Reaper George W. Bush?

I do not know how history will judge Bush. His presidency has been that of mayhem and murder around the world. Millions of people have been killed or displaced in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over 4000 US soldiers killed as well as soldiers from other partners in the alliance. What have we achieved so far? More chaos in these two countries and turmoil in the whole of South East Asia and the Middle East.

The Middle East is a much bigger powder keg today than when Bush took office. It has strengthened Iran and its influence on Iraq. Al-Qaeda has established permanent bases in Iraq. As well, serious conflict has evolved between Sunnis, Shiites and the Kurds of Iraq which has all the makings of a lasting civil war. More murder and mayhem. The situation between Israel and Arab nations has reached a boiling point and is another major powder keg for the world. The recent air strikes by Israel of Gaza and the killing of hundreds of Palestinians does not resolve the issue but escalates the conflict. At least Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton tried to resolve the conflict during their Presidencies, but then along came Bush Jr. who has only inflamed the situation. The geo-political situation is in turmoil. The US economy is in recession and most probably headed for depression and taking the whole world with it. George W. Bush has truly been a grim reaper for his own country and rest of the world.

In Canada we have to put an end to the blind following of Bush policy by Stephen Harper otherwise we are headed for a bigger disaster.

Rod Blagojevich and Rahm Emanuel did have inappropriate contact

Rod Blagojevich (the naughtiest politician of the year) and Rahm Emanuel, Chief of Staff designate for Barack Obama, did have an inappropriate conversation ;) It started as a friendly conversation and Rahm Emanuel gave the Governor of Illinois some names to replace Obama in the US Senate, but then it deteriorated into their favourite language – swearing, expletive-deletive or fuddles duddle.

I think some rightwing nuts and certain members of the media are making a mountain out of a molehill. Everytime something inappropriate happens in Chicago or in the State of Illinois in political arena, these wingnuts rush to associate it with Obama and his staff. It happened during the election and it is happening now. So far nothing has stuck to Obama or his staff and I think in this case nothing will be revealed which will be damaging to Obama and his team. Even the Federal Attorney Patrick Fitzpatrick said that there was no wrongdoing on the part of Obama or his team. However, this will not stop the rightwing nuts from speculation.

Viagra: The weapon of choice in Afghanistan

The NATO forces strategy in Afghanistan has been all screwed up. All they needed was to distribute Viagra widely. The Tribal Elders will be so busy screwing around or screwing each other that there will be very little time left to fight the NATO forces. Victory in the bag, or through a bag, of Viagra. Pfizer will have an "oil-field" of profit in Afghanistan. If NATO forces are screwing around any way, why not screw it the right way.

Santa visits Steve Murphy of CTV

I was not going to do a picture on Christmas, but then Steve Murphy of CTV got my attention last night. He was anchoring the evening news from Halifax and every few minutes he was giving the travel plans of Santa with a complete straight face and NORAD (the North American Aerospace Defence command) was participating. ;) It was odd that a major news anchorman would do that in a serious fashion as if indeed he was tracking Santa.

Please do not get me wrong. I think that Steve Murphy is a good anchorman and devotes lot of his time to good charities. But when it comes to politics he is biased. Whenever he interviews Stephen Harper or any of his cabinet members, he throws softball questions. He is also very buddy buddy when he interviews Bernard Lord. During New Brunswick's last provincial election in 2006, when he had a sit-down with the three party leader, Murphy threw soft-balls at Bernard Lord and overly grilled the Liberal and NDP leaders - something which many viewers noticed and commented upon.

Also, when it came to Liberal leader Stephane Dion during the federal election, Murphy really gave it to him by broadcasting re-takes. I thought that was quite over the top and it did damage Dion. He is also very chummy to Mike Duffy and may be next in line for a Senate seat if Harper is still Prime Minister after January.

I think Bob Rae straightened him out when Murphy interviewed him. Rae told him bluntly that he was biased. Murphy denied it but Rae told him that he should face it that he was biased politically. Come on Steve Murphy, be more objective. Atlantic Canadians do watch you give news.

Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin: Santa Did Visit Them

They already got their Christmas gifts.

Now you know that being a "good journalist" pays and Santa takes care of you ;)

If anyone thinks that they will vote to abolish the Senate or make it an elective body then think again. Why not enjoy the retirement with $100,000 plus per year up to age 75 and then enjoy the additional hefty pension after that. Why jeopardize that? Only if you are crazy and these two and other 16 recently appointed are not. You may say it is true about the other Senators too. However they did not join the Senate with the pretence of reforming it.

Long live pork barrel politics. It is barrels of fun.

Stephen Harper's Split Personality: Eighteen Senators Appointed, Supreme Ct. Judge Appointed Without Hearing

Stephen Harper has a serious split-personality syndrome. He was dead set against an appointed Senate. He said time again to either abolish it, or elect the Senators. Neither happened. Soon after he got elected as PM in 2006 he appointed Fortier to the Senate to be in his cabinet. More recently, he has appointed 18 Conservative political hacks whose names are as follows:

- Former MP Fabian Manning (N.L.).
- Lawyer Fred Dickson (N.S.).
- Stephen Greene, former deputy chief of staff to N.S. Premier Rodney MacDonald (N.S.).
- N.S. businessman Michael L. MacDonald (N.S.).
- Long-time New Brunswick MLA and cabinet minister Percy Mockler (N.B.).
- Lawyer John D. Wallace (N.B.).
- National chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples Patrick Brazeau (Que.).
- Former MP and teacher Suzanne Fortin-Duplessis (Que.).
- Director of Via Rail Canada Leo Housakos (Que.).
- Former Quebec MNA Michel Rivard (Que.).
- Nicole Eaton, member of the prominent Eaton family (Ont.).
- Businessman Irving Gerstein (Ont.).
- Co-founder of the Corean Canadian Coactive (C3) society Yonah Martin (B.C.).
- Provincial cabinet minister Richard Neufeld (B.C.).
- Former Yukon MLA Hector Daniel Lang (Yukon).
- Broadcaster, Pamela Wallin
- Media Commentator, Mike Duffy
- Olympic Athlete, Nancy Greene (N.S.)

If you remember during last election, he said that the fundamentals of the economy were strong. Soon after the election the economy was in trouble. Then his Minister of Ruins, Jim Flaherty, gave his Financial Update (a.k.a the F.U.) and said there will be no deficit for another five years. Now recently he said there will be deficit of $6 billion or more. Split personality runs right through the Harper government. Now Harper is saying that after the economic stimulus package the deficit will be $30 billion or more. These guys indeed have a big hole in their head and they are running our
country.
Harper, after pledging that there would be hearings for his prospective Supreme Court appointees, appointed Nova Scotia's Thomas Cromwell to the Supreme Court. While the hearings for his last appointee were for the most part meaningless, nonetheless Harper is again showing his double-standards and split personality.

Uncle Sam is mad at George W. Bush

Now here is a guy who is Un-American and Lou Dobbs of CNN missed him, but Uncle Sam knows him better.

Bush was so busy conquering the world that he totally ignored his own country. He took over a trillion dollars out of the American economy and spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If he had spent that money on the economy early, the world would not be in such a mess. He was so pre-occupied to be a conqueror that he totally ignored the American economy and internal affairs. It showed during Katrina and throughout eight years. Add to that negligence, the deregulation, the corruption at Wall Street and Financial institutions and it was a recipe for a disaster and that is exactly what happened. Wall Street has practically collapsed, Madoff made off with $50 billions and on and on. Banks started failing and now the auto industry is near collapse. People are losing their savings, jobs, and homes. It is one hell of a mess. Will he get any more Un-American to mess up his country in this manner during the eight years that he called himself the decider? As far as wars are concerned they are one hell of a huge quagmire. One can wish Barack Obama all the luck to get out of this quagmire and fix the economy too.

US misfortune has spread all over the world. When my American friends ask me why I am interested in American politics so much, my answer is that whatever America does impacts the whole world and we Canadians being next door neighbours are impacted even more.

Sarah Palin and Natural Resources

I did this picture a while ago when Greta Van Susteren interviewed Sarah Palin. At the time, I was thinking of hot air as the major natural resource mostly produced by the governor. Since then, new information has come to light. Bristol Palin's (the Governor’s daughter) mother in law has been arrested for possessing and manufacturing drugs including, reports say, crystal meth. So who knows, there may be lot more in that steam coming out of governor’s mouth.

A comedian on Keith Olbermann's show had interesting name suggestions for governor's grandchild – Crystal if a daughter and Meth-u or Mathew if a son.

Sarah Palin is pallin' with some interesting people now...

The story I heard that Harper was interviewed and asked about the economic situation. Harper admitted that economy was in bad shape and may get worse and indicated that he was afraid that depression may follow. Lou Dobbs said to be afraid is Un-American and hence Harper was Un-American.

Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush: The Worst People in the World

In my view these three are the worst people in the world – Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush, in that order. They are responsible for the deaths and displacements of millions of Iraqis and Afghanis. Both of these countries are in ruins, especially Iraq. There is also a lasting unrest in the Middle East and South East Asia and an unstable world. Some news sources have reported that these three have committed crimes against humanity and committed serious war crimes.

Now Cheney has boldly come out and said that Iraq would have been invaded whether WMD's or no WMD's . Cheney also admitted bluntly that he approved the torture of detainees. Rumsfeld carried out similar activities. Bush went along with whatever these two puppeteers wanted him to do. He recently admitted that there was no Al-Queda in Iraq prior to invasion and added, "so what." The Bush administration is leaving the US economy in one of the worst condition since the 1930's and the US reputation is in tatters as evidenced by the recent shoe throwing by an Iraqi Journalist. It turns out that many in the world - both in the Middle East and in the United States - would like to do the same to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Jim Flaherty’s Crispy Feast

After Flaherty finishes his feast, would there be any money left for anything? In his first Financial Update (a.k.a F.U.) after the election there was going to be no deficit. Now in his second F.U., in Saskatoon in front of the Premiers, he said there WILL BE a major deficit, in the billions. Still, no economic stimulus package. What happened between his first and second F.U.? – he has been probably putting money where his mouth is and ate most of it. The advice he is giving to the Premiers he should be following himself and show some fiscal responsibility and honesty in public pronoucements.

During the election these characters, including Harper, said that the fundamentals of the economy were strong. After the election suddenly there were problems and they tried to cripple the oppositon by cutting public funding but said there will be no deficit. Now there will be a major deficit. Maybe Flaherty and Haper are into depression already – plenty of Prozac needed for them.

George W. Bush: The shoe does not fit

This man has no shame. When he was still under the influence of the shoes, he was asked by an ABC reporter if Al Qaeda was in Iraq before the invasion and his answer was "No, so what?" At the same time his Vice-man Dick was making media rounds. He was asked why invasion if there were no WMD's and his answer was "So?" Vice-man Dick added that he would have attacked Iraq, WMD's or no WMD's. Apparently Dick was running the show.

Stephen Harper: Emperor’s Crown or the noose?

As soon as Stephen Harper formed the government in early 2006, his head got too big. He assumed that he was the Emperor and he started wearing the crown. To access him (whether you were a citizen or the media) you had to go through a large bevy of courtiers. Only his master George W. Bush and fellow poodle of Britain, Tony Blair, had direct access to him.

Harper sneered at the opposition and democracy and kept playing his games. Then the Emperor wanted some more jewels in his crown and called an election in September 2008 hoping that he would become unchallenged ruler after that. It did not quite happen that way and he was left with another minority. The very first trick from his hat or crown was the Financial Update (or F.U.). The opposition could not roll over anymore and they challenged him. In response, Harper quickly prorogued Parliament. However, in the process Harper's head shrank back to its normal size and his crown instead became noose around his neck. It is hoped that this Emperor’s days are numbered.

Since Barack Obama and Rahm Emmanuel had nothing to gain in their dealings with him, they may escape unscathed, especially Obama. Blagojevich and Obama did not get along, and the Governor used some choice words for the President-elect. Michael Ignatieff Jumping For Joy

I'm back. I had gone fishing for a few days, some of the fish took bites, but none was willing to be caught ;) So I let them go on their way, but just the action of fishing is great fun.

Back to current events, Michael Ignatieff must be jumping for joy as the newly minted leader of the Liberal Party. I must admit, I don't know much about Mr. Ignatieff other than his past views on foreign policy which were very hawkish and pro-imperialist. I do find this very worrisome. However, I understand that he has since changed his views as he better understands political realities - this he stated clearly in a New York Times column retracting his previous support for the Iraq War. He also better understands the sentiments of the majority of Canadians.

I sincerely hope that Ignatieff will not roll over when Stephen Harper plays petty partisan games in Parliament, as was unfortunately the case over the last two years. I do believe that Mr. Ignatieff has both the intellect and the ability to effectively fight back against Harper.

I also believe that Mr. Ignatieff has the potential to be a good Prime Minister. I hope that he will tour the country in the near future and clearly articulate his platform to Canadians. Despite his past hawkish and pro-imperialist views on foreign affairs, I think that Ignatieff will be a great improvement over Harper.

Stephen Harper has proven himself to be a very ineffective Prime Minister who governs in bad faith - he is concerned more with petty partisan politics than with the needs of Canadians. He began by scheming for power, and has since been trying to strengthen and prolong his power indifferent to the needs of Canadians.

Harper must go, and Ignatieff will be a great improvement.

Stephen Harper has been daring the opposition for quite a while now, especially before the last election. He forgot he had a minority in the House of Commons. His arrogance and game playing caught up with him and he brought about his own fall. He cannot blame anyone else for it. No matter who the new leader of Liberal Party is, Stephen Harper will have hard time surviving come January. If Liberals roll over again under the new leader then they will lose their credibility. By proroguing the Parliament in order to avoid a no-confidence vote Harper is bordering on being an illegitimate Prime Minister.

The Devolution of Stephen Harper

You have heard about evolution but this story is about devolution. It happens you know. Stephen Harper could have stood tall after the 2008 election as he did manage to increase his minority strength and came within the striking distance of a majority. But instead he decided to squander his political capital, like his idol Bush, real quickly. He could have co-operated with the opposition and provided stable government for 2-3 years, instead he chose to demolish the opposition in a despotic manner.

Through his Finance Deminister Jim Flaherty, he provided a Financial Update (some fellow bloggers called it the F.U.) ending the public funding of political parties which is a cornerstone of Canadian democracy as it now stands. He claimed that he wanted to save $30 million to fight the economic downturn where billions are needed. It was a drop in the bucket. His intentions were clear, he wanted no opposition and the economy was the least of his concerns. As a government in power he was sure that his party would collect enough funds to keep going. That dwarfed his stature considerably, if there was any.

The opposition decided to take him on his missteps and decided to pass a vote of no confidence on December 1st, 2008 - a day set aside for the opposition. Harper rescinded the opposition day and instead promised such a vote on December 08, 2008 - further cutting down his stature.

Then on December 4th he met with the Governor General asking her for prorogation of Parliament which was granted - a horrible precedent to override the will of the majority of the House of Commons. Now it was clear that not only does he have dictatorial tendencies, but that he is a dictator. Period. I hope Canadians understand that this is not only a prorogation of Parliament but of democracy. It looks real bad for Canada and we are becoming a laughing stock of the world.

Now, all that is left is a little dwarf of Harper who is a disgrace to himself, to Canada and to the office of the Prime Minister. The Governor General should do the right thing and ask for his resignation.

Democracy suspended in Canada

It is also astounding that an unelected and appointed person can override the will of the majority of the Parliament - that person is our Governor General. However, she did that as a result of pressure from the Prime Minister (he still calls himself Prime Minister).

Stephen Harper is playing foul

Stephen Harper does not want to play by the rules - he went to the Governor General to get the prorogation rather than face a confidence vote. It is odd that the Governor General has approved prorogation without any preconditions, this is like putting a roadblock in the path of democracy. Harper does not have the support of the House. How long is Harper going to survive like this?

Does he not understand that in Canada we do not elect a Prime Minister, but that we elect a House and that the Member who has the majority of the House becomes the Prime Minister? Why does Harper not understand that? He was not given the mandate to become Prime Minister that he thinks he got.

If Canadians wanted to give him the mandate, they would have given him a majority. Now it is obvious that the majority of the House is not with him, he should thus do the right and honourable thing and step down.

Another month is not going to help him at all.

Stephen Harper is bent out of shape

I heard Stephen Harper’s speech last night. He is simply bent out of shape. I did not understand the logic of the speech, as it conveyed nothing new other than begging the electorate to keep him as Prime Minister. He was also deceptive as usual suggesting that the coalition includes the separatist Bloc, however he did not use that word in the French version in order to placate the Quebec voters. A duplicitous character indeed. He assumes Quebecois and voters in general in Canada are stupid and will not catch on with his fallacies. He should remember the golden rule that "you cannot fool all the people all the time."

Ed Broadbent is one of the nicest politicians in Canada. Even he is disgusted with Harper's tactics and told the media that Harper openly lies. He said he knew previous Conservatives leaders who did not lie in public such as Joe Clark. Harper is a brand in his own right – deception and lies.
