Let me first say that it is unfortunate that Mr. Bahari was arrested in Iran for no obvious reasons and imprisoned and tortured as he says. It is wrong and Iranians should be made accountable for it. It is good that he is back with his family and newly born child.
However, why are media in the U.S making so much fuss about Bahari? That Fareed Zakaria guy goes on and on. Mr. Bahari was on Zakaria's show on the previous Sunday and he repeated his interview this Sunday; constantly chastising Iran and telling the world how barbaric he thinks Iranians are. I think this Zakaria is full of hot air. What about the torture of Iraqis and Afghanis in their own country in full view of occupying U.S forces? Bush and his poodles Harper of Canada and Blair of Britain were in cahoots with each other and they carried out this war in the name of God. What kind of God is He that blesses the actions of Bush, Blair and Harper and does nothing about Iraqis and Afghanis? No wonder people feel so cynical about religion. Are Iraqis and Afghanis not humans? Does the rest of humanity not matter? The stupidity of humans at the highest levels of society is breath taking.
As far Zakaria is concerned, maybe he wants to please his bosses at CNN. He should take his butts out of his cocoon and go to Iraq and Afghanistan to interview detainees there who were tortured. Are we in Canada and US not equally barbarian that we are letting it happen? He must go to Iraq and Afghanistan and interview those whose loved ones have been murdered in front of their eyes and have been tortured too. What happened to "all humans are created equal" since Bush, Harper and Tony Blair are so religious and worshippers of God.
The best way U.S., Canada and Europe can influence the rest of the world is through example and NOT through brutality, murder and mayhem. As far as Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Stephen Harper and Tony Blair are concerned they may think that they are more evolved than rest of the humanity but in reality they are nothing more than a bunch of buffoons, and dangerous ones at that.

Breaking Science News.
Speaking of rats, it was discovered recently that rats laugh. "We have discovered that human are not the only species that can laugh and that has a sense of humor," explained Sidney Ratcliff, General Delivery University scientists. A grant request has been filed with the FDA to determine what the rats are finding so funny. However, scientist is one species that has not developed a sense of humour yet. Lab rats are working on them. Recommend this post

Given all the missteps of Harper, being a poodle of Bush and all, he is doing well. What does that tell us about Michael Ignatieff. He is the wrong man for the head of LPC. LPC, you should think and think hard as to what you need to do.
"Harper moved to shut down Parliament and produce a new Speech from the Throne and budget, while at the same time inspiring fear and loathing in the coalition concept.Recommend this post
A Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey released Thursday suggested that 41 per cent of Canadians thought that was the best outcome a year ago.
Another 10 per cent of those polled would have preferred an election ending in a Conservative victory, while 31 per cent would have liked to see the Liberals attain power - either by election or in a coalition government.
There is even better news for Harper when voters are asked about leadership. A majority of 51 per cent had a favourable opinion of the prime minister, set against 41 per cent who view him unfavourably. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff was viewed favourably by 31 per cent of respondents, with 50 per cent viewing him unfavourably."

Let us look at creationists and evolutionists.
"All humans are created equal."
If this dogma is practiced then it will bring a fairly egalitarian society. But easier said than done. More often than not they don't and society in general does not. So we live in the mess that we quite often do, including wars.
"Screw you it is the survival of the fittest."
This dogma is troublesome to start with. Put in practice it brings disasterous results. Bush and Cheney wanted to show Iraq and Afghanistan that they are the fittest. They don't necessarily admit to being evolutionist but monkey is what monkey does – the origin of species.
Is it possible that the West was jealous; that all the prophets are from the Middle East – Abraham, Moses, Christ and Mohammed? Buddha, who did not claim to be a prophet or son of God (I don't think Christ did either but that is the way the story was developed at a later date). However, Buddha did present an extraordinarily good philosophy to live by. You can check out his philosophy yourself. Try Internet. So the West said bye bye prophets we have one of our own and his name is Charles Darwin. He knows all about creation. It is all monkey business and nothing more.
Here is a quote from Buddha:
"Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true." - Buddha
Besides being a holy man Buddha sounds like a bit of scientist. But I like his teachings.
Update:To evolutionists and to other know-it-alls
read this carefully.
Science has come a long way but it is still in its infancy. If it is any consolation to you I equally question the creationists. I question all fanatics equally.
Also lighten up and have some sense of humour.

My my lucky us. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen of England, will be visiting us around Canada Day. We should be honoured that a lady of her stature will be visiting us. Should Harper not bow a little more when shaking hands with the Queen? He should learn from Barack Obama and the way he bowed to the King of Japan. After all, Harper follows everything else Americans do.Recommend this post
Every Friday Steve Murphy of CTV's Maritime division interviews his colleague Tom Clark from Ottawa on current events. This Friday he asked Clark about Afghanistan and the torture issue. Clark went something like this: now that Rick Hillier has spoken on the issue it is a game changer. He said Rick Hillier is highly respected by Canadians and is a man of great integrity and credibility. Oh really, Tom? Thank you for telling us that. I did not know anything about the popularity of Rick Hillier. Did the rest of you know? Well now you do.
Tom, do yourself a favour and leave your cocoon in Ottawa and travel Canada a little more and you may get a different picture. Then what do I know, he is the "expert" on current events.

We all know about religious fanatics and the damage they can cause. If you disagree with them they declare you a disbeliever, your views as heresy, and you an infidel. They may even kill people.
Now a new kind of fanaticism is cropping up. They call themselves evolutionists and if you disagree with them on any issue they go ballistic. I do not see much difference between the two types. Evolution must be your new religion or else.
A self-proclaimed scientist/scholar/intellectual (some crap like that) commented on my blog:
'...oh, and by the way: "survivial (sic)of the fittest" was something Darwin never wrote..'
Oh Yeah! Really! Here is a quote from none other than Darwin himself:
"In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment." Charles Darwin (1809 - 1882)
Here is another one and how he adopted this term in his revised edition of The Origin of Species:
"The expression often used by Mr. Herbert Spencer of the Survival of the Fittest is more accurate, and is sometimes equally convenient" - Charles Darwin
Darwin was so taken with Spencer's catchy phrase that he did, in fact, use it in a later (1869) edition of his The Origin of Species."
The sad part is that Darwin was anything but fanatic. Little did he know that his followers would be. He must be turning in his grave.
UPDATE: This mentalmegalomaniac (It is not my style to give publicity to kooks like him, but after all his hard work at buffoonery he deserves some) keeps saying he will not waste his time anymore on someone who dares to say anything blasphemous(in his mind) about evolution; yet he is consumed by it. He keeps writing comments to himself here vilifying me and seeking the help of Jesus or Jesus 900ft. My, an evolutionist seeking help from Jesus. Now he has written a whole post on this here. I wonder who is having a meltdown. I got more laughs out of this guy and his fanaticism than any comedy show I have seen in recent days – if that is melting down then be it.
Now he is reprimanding Progressive Bloggers about why they include my posts and those who vote for my posts. Maybe I should inform Jon Stewart about this guy and he may have field day with it, but then Jon Stewart goes after significant people generally, not kooks.
If you're a woman, have long blonde hair and are beautiful then the wall of security keeps tumbling down. I wonder if a black-couple would have made it? Both Rahm Emanuel, Mr. Obama's Chief of Staff, and Joe Biden were tripping over each other to get their picture taken with Ms. Salahi. Security did the same. No one would have known if Salahis had decided not to post their pictures with the Veep and the Chief of Staff on their facebook page. Now you know guys and gals, looks do matter, don't go into the Whitehoue with a long beard or if you're a woman with headcover. Yippee! This one is good.
What are fanatics going to do now? Hire blue-eyed blonde hair beautiful women to penetrate security and access their destinations.
A detailed story here.
Sexual exploitation of the female body. Watch the above video and reach your own conclusions. There is a controversy going on in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Hooters women did some exercises in the morning in front the restaurant which, according to some, caused traffic problems and some fender-benders as men were leering from their vehicles. Then someone took the law into their own hands and burned the place down. Now that is wrong because it is a criminal act and people must not take law into their own hands.
However, as far as Hooters are concerned, should they not give some consideration to local sensitivities? I think Hooters do go overboard to make a buck by making their female employees expose their bodies to seduce customers.

God was sitting and was very bored. He had enough of the angels. He wanted to do something different. So he created the earth, sun, moon, stars and the universe. It still did not please him. So he created a creature called Adam – the man - and put him in the heaven. Despite being in heaven, Adam was very disoriented and unhappy. So God decided to create his companion Eve – the woman. Adam suddenly perked up. God told them to be happy but warned them not to eat the apple from the apple tree. However, Eve proceeded to get the apple and shared it with Adam. Or was it Adam who got the apple and shared it with Eve? Heck! It was such a long time ago that I was told this story, I forget.
At that point God got very angry. He threw them out of heaven straight to the earth. Ouch! Must have hurt. How come they did not break their bums or at least legs? Anyway they kept eating a lot of apples and produced a lot of little Adams and Eves and lived unhappily ever after.
Once upon time there was guy by the name of Charles Darwin somewhere in Britain. He had a house, wife and children. His daughter got very sick. He and his wife constantly prayed to God to save their daughter. Sadly, the daughter passed away from her illness – I am very sincere that it was a very sad event in the Darwin family's life. Charles got very angry with God and said he shall prove that he is a fraud and does not exist.
Later in life Charles himself got very ill. He had all kinds of ailments including eczema. He started going to a witch-doctor who prescribed him a lot of cold showers but that did not help much. He got angry at people in general so he wrote a book called "On The Origin Of Species" and declared humans descendant of apes. Since then many followers of Darwin have been improving on his theory.
Moral of the Story:
1) Never make God angry, as he will expel you from heaven.
2) Never get those evolutionary academics/intellectuals angry. They will throw a temper tantrum at you and call you ignorant. Their livelihood depends on their research, you know.
Harper, Mackay and Hillier vehemently deny that there was any torture of Afghan detainees. Harper and Mackay made public statements and Hillier appeared before the Special Committee of the Parliament on Afghanistan Mission.
In other words, according to them, Richard Colvin is not telling the truth. According to them, the Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan is lying – the same commission which the Harper government has extolled in the past. The Red Cross is exaggerating and lying. Other diplomats who spoke out are lying. Media, especially reporters in Afghanistan, some of whom were embedded with Canadian forces, are lying; but these three and some other generals are telling the truth. Apparently Obama made a big deal about the visit of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and held the first state dinner in his honour. Then he called India the biggest democracy in the world. That should get Repugs up in arms, as the U.S can be second to none. What is Obama trying to prove? Is he daring China that if they do not co-operate he can always lean on India? How does Pakistan feel, a big rival of India, as the U.S is seeking its help to defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan and in the borders areas. How does Israel feel? When Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu came to visit recently it was a hush hush moment and the media was not allowed in for their meeting; there was no joint press conference which is a kind of routine when a foreign head of state visits the Whitehouse.
Did we not deal with a Mulroney before?
Brian Mulroney said at one point in time that he did not do this and that, or say this and that with regards to Karlheinz Schreiber and money exchanging hands. It turned out that he did all that and said all that. Strange now David Mulroney, one time Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to Harper and currently ambassador to China, is saying there was no torture of detainees in Afghanistan, claiming he didn't know anything about it. Moreover, he says he does not know what Richard Colvin is talking about. Can we believe this Mulroney now? Is this guy related to Brian Mulroney. Déjà vu all over again.

According to CNN, Barack Obama is considering to send 34,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Will that do? Can the US and NATO really win a military war in Afghanistan? Or, are they just wasting time, money, and the lives of the troops and of the Afghan people.
It would look that the only way to deal with this war is negotiation - in particular to negotiate that there is a government acceptable to the Afghan people with a commitment that it will not host any kind of Al-Qaeda group. It sounds highly improbable that you can take a government which is by all accounts very corrupt, call it a democracy, and then send hundreds of thousands of troops from foreign countries to keep that government propped up when Karzai controls only 20% of the country.
It just doesn't sound right.

Charles Darwin was a very troubled man. His daughter was very ill and he and his wife constantly prayed to God for her recovery but she died anyway. That is when he became a very angry man and became firm in his earlier thinking that it is all about the selection of nature that regarding who survives and who dies God has nothing to do with it. Maybe, maybe not. He was indeed an ambitious man who wanted to be famous and wanted to sell his books just like Sarah Palin. Only difference was that he could write and Sarah Palin could not.
Don't get me wrong, as I am not anti-science. Quite the contrary. Galileo put forward the theory that the planet Earth is round and not flat and that it revolves around the sun. At the time the church condemned him. However, today we have no doubt about his theory as we can go up high on a satellite and see our globe as being round. Likewise Newton proposed the theory of gravity and now we can go in space and feel the weightlessness and have no doubt about gravity. However, Darwin's theory does not fall into the same category. A lot of it is just theory. As he showed how a pigeon can be changed by humans by using different breeding techniques. But that does not put any light on how humans evolved from a single cell into a fish, monkey etc. All a theory. Today a human body has trillions of cells and is put together in a manner that a human can think, love, hate, have children all at the same time. Did all that happened by coincidence? I find the human body a mystery, an extraordinary machine, a miracle. Then there is the mind part and spiritualism part which cannot be explained by modern science and good scientists admit that, including well-known brain surgeon late Dr. Wilder Penfield of Montreal.
Then there is Dr. Deepak Chopra who once indicated that we, in the west, are so obsessed with the physical part of our lives that we forget there is a spiritual part. He comments on how medical science in the west has advanced, how it can replace an ailing heart, lungs, kidneys, knee-caps etc, but that we still know very little about the spiritual part of human lives and how spiritual healing is equally important in order to live a full life.
The most dangerous part of Darwin's theory is "survival of the fittest". I call it dangerous because it negates all ethics and moral humans have to follow. Under the "survival of the fittest" we should let nature take its course and if the weak die, too bad or kill them off. Only thing, theories cannot work in practice. Consider the Soviets who tried to put Karl Marx's theory on communism into practice; we know it is a big failure now. Likewise Hitler tried the "The Survival of the Fittest" theory.
Hitler thought that the Aryan nation was superior and the rest of the minorities in Germany - disabled, Jews and gays - must die as they don't fit the mold of the fittest. We know what disastrous results that brought – concentration camps and genocide.
Even Bush and Cheney can justify mass killing in Iraq under the "survival of the fittest" as they had superior firepower and if Iraqis got killed then they were not the fittest and let them die. Likewise can we object to genocide in Darfur as Sudanese can say it is all the game of the survival of the fittest. Let the nature take its course.
As humans we can do better than that and follow ethics and morals which will stop us from cruelty and genocide. I don't know how life started and I don't pretend to know. Pretty well all religions do teach brotherhood, sisterhood and love but we have effectively rendered them useless by exploiting religions for political purposes and have justified the most brutal of brutal actions using religion. I believe what needs to be done is follow religions in their spirit and learn to live in peace as religions do teach us that. I don't read religious books so I cannot quote from holy books but they do teach us how to be better humans such as "love thy neighbour" and "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and "the meek shall rule the world". If we follow these principles then life on our planet could be much better.
Peter Mackay keeps saying that allegations that Afghan detainees handed over to Afghans were tortured cannot be substantiated by facts. What facts? Would he care to elaborate?
Peter, for Pete sake, the writing is on the wall. Your own senior diplomat is saying it happened. His fellow diplomats here in Canada and Europe are backing him up. Media in Canada and Britain are saying that this is the case. Even a very right leaning paper, the National Post, is saying that there is a problem, they had an editorial siding with Mr. Colvin.
Peter, have you learned nothing from Maher Arar's case who was detained in the U.S? Our law enforcement agencies provided unsubstantiated information about him, and he was sent to Syria where he was tortured. Canada got a black eye for that and settled for millions of dollars with Mr. Arar. When will you learn? Do yourself a favour and resign, as the defence portfolio is not your cup of tea.

If you believe that crazy professor from Britain about the evolution of man then why would you not believe this theory presented in picture above about how Sarah Palin evolved.
Some Repugs think she is a great leader. God forbid if these Repugs succeed and Palin becomes President someday; then you ain't seen nothing yet. If you think Bush and Cheney were bad, she is even more ignorant.
CNN had a recent documentary on this where three US soldiers executed 4 Iraqi detainees and then dumped them in a canal. This is one such case which has become public, besides Abu-Gharib, and there may be dozens and dozens more which never became public. According to some estimates, over one million Iraqis have been killed since the invasion in 2003.
The international hypocrisy is incredible. US and other Western nations equip a small country of Israel with nukes to the teeth – over 250 nuclear heads according to some estimates. Yet the U.S. invades Iraq on the suspicion of having nukes/chemical weapons, and destroys the nation with no evidence to substantiate such suspicion. It is not the soldiers who are to be blamed for this but it is the decision-makers who are to be blamed for such slaughter and genocide. Is there any doubt that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are responsible for such mass murder and war crimes?
Now Repugs, and some Dems also, are eying Iran; if they can have their way they will do the same to Iran as to what has been done to Iraq. What a hypocritical and murderous world we live in. Quite bluntly the most dangerous people, with criminal mentality, currently occupying this planet are the likes of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their cohorts.

According to Defence Minister Peter Mackay, Richard Colvin's statements cannot be backed by facts. Which facts is Mackay talking about? Why does he not state these facts?
What possibly can be the motive of Richard Colvin to lie? To get fired from a high profile, well paid job in Washington D.C? Although Peter Mackay says he will not fire him and he will leave it up to to the civil servants. Right! He is really telling the truth now, is he not. My golly what a yahoo Mackay is; he really thinks people will believe him, Mackay, who wants to keep his job and that of his boss Harper's and will do anything for it; or would people believe Calvin who apparently has no motives (other than self-destruction?) as in the long run his career may be ruined.
Here is Mackay's statement:
"I don't believe it's credible. I don't believe it's backed up by fact and what we have to deal with in a parliamentary hearing, as we do in a court of law, or another judicial or public inquiry, is evidence that can be substantiated."

It is amazing that Stephen Harper, Peter Mackay and Rick Hillier all either have amnesia or don't recall (typical excuse in order to hide the truth) receiving any memo from Richard Colvin, a senior Canadian diplomat in Afghanistan now posted in the US. In these memos, it was stated that detainees handed over by Canadian troops to Afghan authorities were routinely tortured. How can they not know? They have lost any credibility, not that they had any. It does not look good on Canada. We wittingly or unwittingly were party to war crimes. How can we condemn Rwanda or other similar war atrocities by other societies when we ourselves were heavily involved? Very sad times for Canada.Recommend this post
In the past, Harper made a big deal that he would not meet Chinese leaders because of China's human rights record. Now he wants to follow the example of Barack Obama and visit China. What happened to human rights record now? Also we have joined the big league with the US on the issue of torture. The recent disclosure is that Afghani detainees are routinely tortured when handed over to Afghan authorities by the Canadian military. We can deny all we want, but what how are we going erase the evidence? Our own senior diplomat is saying that such torture exists in Afghanistan. Can we tell other nations now with straight face that their human rights record is not good? The Harper government is not even willing to do any further investigation into such allegations.

Mr. Cannon can canonize Karzai as President all he wants but who the hell is he fooling? Talk about emperor without clothes. Cannon, Harper and company thinks that they can "fool all the people all the time." If only we had a strong Liberal leader, then Harper will be history in no time... actually a footnote to history.

The above picture of Sarah Palin is from the Newsweek cover page. It is an interesting picture and is quite revealing about her personality.
Yes she should run for President in 2012 and her suggested running mate is Barbie. Don't worry, Barbie is smarter than Sarah so she will keep her grounded.
Now the reality. Is this woman not a complete joke who has experience in foreign affairs because she can "see Russia from Alaska"? Watch out Medvedev and Putin. She is no Hillary Clinton. What do Cons see in her? Lots of razzle dazzle with zero substance. Even her book is a joke by all accounts. Instead of writing something substantial she chose to even the scores with McCain staff.

There is nothing special about them other than that their forefathers were despots. So Barack Obama, stand up straight and be a man.

He is showing a few dance moves to the President of China, Hu Jintao. It is not clear what the mission of this visit is. One thing is for sure, China is an economic and military power to reckon with. It may be the super power in the world down the road. China has shown the US that unbridled capitalism could fail and does fail miserably. Also, China is the biggest lender to the US government – a sum of $800 billion. And it may be that it owns a lot of Wall Street too.
The US has shown that unchecked capitalism can bring disastrous results. The US or the West cannot and should not copy China for the central control; but extensive regulations are needed to keep off the Bernie Madoffs of this world. Bernie Madoff was one of the many symptoms of the failing US economy. If all humans were angelic then we would not need regulations and unbridled capitalism may work but unfortunately the reality is quite different. As a matter of fact, if humans were angels then we wouldn't even need government, police and laws. Since humans are humans we need government, we need police and we need good regulations to control and guide capitalism and markets.

Liberals had great hopes from the "charismatic" leader Michael Ignatieff, but he has constantly stumbled on many issues from the environment, to the economy, to humanitarian and international concerns. His approval ratings continue to go south. Is there still hope for Mr. Ignatieff's ascendance to power?
Or should I ask the question that, given the leadership in Ottawa, is there still hope for Canada especially given the current recession? We need some stronger voice to get us out of the current doldrums.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A former Louisiana congressman who famously hid $90,000 cash in his freezer was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for taking bribes, the longest term ever imposed on a congressman for bribery charges.

She is totally gone rogue now. Her new motto:
"Republican Party, politics? Who cares? Let me make some dough."
She will have enough money now to kill more turkeys and invite her once-supposed-to-be son-in-law Levi Johnson for Thanksgiving dinner. She said so on Opera – Levi will be under the turkey's wings. Is it possible that he will be the turkey for the dinner?
And not a moment too soon. It was long in coming. He was a drag on the network. I don't understand why CNN took so long. Good riddance Lou. I hope immigrants to the US will take a sigh of relief and feel a little safer. He did not say much of a goodbye last Wednesday other than "see you on radio" - though he did talk earlier about it being his last show (I missed that part).
Dobbs will join MSNBC next and replace Keith Olbermann on Countdown. Just kidding don't get exited. Probably he will join Fox News. He will fit right in as their new faux.

This reminds me of an ancient Chinese king who wanted to live forever. He took mercury thinking that mercury will strengthen his internal organs so well that death will escape him. Well, it did not take very long, he died of mercury poisoning.
The emperor died during one of his tours of Eastern China, on September 10, 210 BCE (Julian Calendar) at the palace in Shaqiu prefecture (沙丘平台), about two months away by road from the capital Xianyang. Reportedly, he died of swallowing mercury (poison) pills, made by his court scientists and doctors, which contained too much mercury. Ironically, these pills were meant to make Qin Shi Huang immortal.

What is with people? Why are they not comfortable in their own skin? If white, then there is the craze of having a tan. Some go for a tan in a tanning salon at the risk of getting skin cancer or remain in the sunshine too long with the same unfortunate results many times. If black, then need to be white. Michael Jackson is the classic example and now Sammy Sosa the ex-baseball player. May I suggest that we compromise and let us all get green! I heard that green is good for the environment ;)
I wonder what colour Adam and Eve were, and were they happy with their colour?

Gordon Brown writes a letter to the mother of a dead soldier and makes multiple spelling mistakes. It upsets the mother to no end as even her name is misspelled. However, to be fair to Mr. Brown, he is partially blind and that may be the reason for the mistakes.
The mother calls the Prime Minister and expresses her displeasure. I could not get that video. The mother tells the Prime Minister, during that phone call, about the dangers of the war in Afghanistan and lack of equipment which probably was partially responsible for her son's death. She asks him, how would he feel if it was his son or daughter killed because of lack of proper equipment.
The horrors of the War in Afghanistan continues.
Update: Here is the full video.

It is important that we remember those who gave their lives for the sake of freedom. However, we must also think about the horrors of war and how we can minimize (and hopefully end) wars in the world. Wars kill and, contrary to conventional wisdom, wars are not a necessity. We must seek other ways to sort out our differences. As I have said in past posts, violence breeds more violence and likewise one war leads to another war and there will never be an end. Let us find out the ways to avoid wars.
Yes it is idealism but there is nothing wrong with pursuing good ideals. I got the idea of "No War Day" from Andy Rooney's commentary on CBS's 60 minutes. Here is that video again:
John Shadegg is not the first ventriloquist in the Congress. Remember the real dummy George W. Bush and his ventriloquist big Dick Cheney? Those were the days that Americans will not forget; they will pay the price for that ventriloquist and his dummy for a long long long time to come. Dummies and ventriloquists don't come cheap you know. Recommend this post

There is a little problem. Maddie is only seven months old. Rep. John Shadegg, an Arizona Republican, used the granddaughter of his chief of staff as a prop to make his point in the House of Representative. Will Cons get anymore crazy? Maddie knew what she was doing as she kept pushing away the microphone, maybe saying, "Stop this craziness old man"
Rep. Henry Waxman (D., Calif.) reacted by saying, “That was a remarkable child and a great ventriloquist.” Recommend this post

What is with this guy Joe Lieberman? He was supposed be a Democrat. He ran as a vice with Al Gore. Maybe that is why Al Gore lost it, because his vice candidate had no credibility. Then in the 2008 Presidential election Lieberman endorsed Republican candidate John McCain. There were rumours that he was considered for veep candidate to McCain.
Joe Lieberman's bizarre behaviour continues. Now he is dead set against healthcare reform and he is saying that he will do everything in his power to defeat the Senate healthcare reform bill. I thought the guy was sensible. Boy was I ever wrong.

I usually don't pay much attention to Andy Rooney's weekly ranting on CBS's 60 Minutes but this one is real good. He talks about Veterans Day and wars. He talks about the futility and heartbreak of wars and how civilization has not moved much further when it comes to wars. Then he suggests that instead of Veterans Day why not have a "No War Day". Coming from a veteran of the war I thought it was very meaningful. Recommend this post

An extraordinary panic has been created about H1N1. It scared the whole population. Promises were made that everyone would get the injection if they wanted one. Not so. Now there is a target group thing – the target which is moving everyday. Maybe Steve needs your butt so that he can inject you himself?
It is an extremely poorly managed epidemic if there is one. No wonder Sheila Fraser, the Auditor General, says that the Harper government is not prepared to deal with any emergency, disaster – man-made or natural.
What happened to Michael Steele you may ask. He fell into his own trap – teabag that is. He says the US has the best healthcare in the world and further added that ask Canadians who drive across the border to the US when they need healthcare. Hey Mike where do you live, on planet Luna?
The only Canadians who go to the US are those who have a lot of money and need an operation for a condition that is not life threatening. We have such stores here too, now especially in Quebec.
Here's another example, a crime boss from Japan fools the FBI to give them some information, which he hardly gives, and then he gets ahead of the line to get a liver transplant because he had couple of million US dollars to spare. Is that the standard of your good healthcare Mike? Is there some problem with those who are in the public eye and their first name is Michael?

A very tragic event took place yesterday at Fort Hood, Texas where a soldier (a Major and a psychiatrist) killed 12 fellow soldiers and wounded another 30. One's heart goes out to the wounded, the dead and their families. It is bad enough that these soldiers get killed in the war theatre, it is all the more tragic that it happened at their own base in the home country.
However, it makes another issue very obvious, that violence breeds violence. The US indeed is a very violent society. And let us dispel the myth that it undertakes wars to spread democracy. It is actually spreading violence which is having its impact on the home territory. It took violence to Afghanistan which has become more violent than it was after former Soviet invasion; now that violence has spread to neighbouring Pakistan. Democracy in Afghanistan is very doubtful but violence indeed is for real. The same is true for Iraq. Violence has tremendously increased since the invasion of Iraq and it has spread into the whole Middle East. There must be a way to end this cycle of violence.
A good start will be to end these wars. The soldiers who are going to come back may suffer from PTSD and violence in society will continue by some for sometime to come; but with proper treatment it can be minimized. Of course violence in general in society continues which needs to be controlled.
A new kind of violence came on the horizon after Obama was elected President. The teabaggers and birthers are inciting violence. The outcome will be very undesirable. Especially gun totting teabbagers are indeed dangerous. This dangerous movement must be nipped in the bud. Then there are businesses who survive on violence and wars, such businesses who produce weapons. Efforts must be made that they find some other kind of business. Green energy business maybe the one to go into. Currently it is a very sad situation in the US and around the world. Americans approved two wars started by Bush at the cost of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars but have taken up arms to defeat healthcare reform. Will it get anymore ironic? There sure is a need for cultural change.

That is what Keith Olbermann of MSNBC calls it. Cons truly gone crazy. More teabaggers and fanatics converge in Washington D.C on Capitol Hill through the inciting of the likes of the Michelle Bachmann. She is a teabagger second to none. Maybe second to Sarah Palin. They are truly behaving like twits. They support wars but oppose healthcare reform. They are truly giving a black eye to the US and hurting its image in the world.
Okay I do watch reality shows and one of them is Survivor. It helps me to understand human nature. Sometimes the most deceptive and manipulative win such reality shows. My worry is what kind of role model they provide to society.
There is this competitor in the new Survivor show and his name is Russell Hantz. He is a self-proclaimed manipulator. He thinks his fellow competitors are little mental slaves of his. He also indicated that his father is a preacher. That speaks a lot about preachers. Is that their job, to manipulate and fool people? Is that what he learned from his father? This further shakes my faith in organized religion.

Apparently a teabag fell on him. This seat was held by Republicans since the Civil War, so why lose now because teenagers like Sarah Palin got involved and endorsed a far-right Con over the Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava who withdrew from the competition because of this infighting? She was too progressive for the likes of Sarah Palin. This tells you how effective Sarah Palin and her ilk can be. Upstate New Yorkers rejected them. I thought the big story of Tuesday night was not Virginia and New Jersey but Upstate New York where a Democrat did not have a hope in hell to win but it happened. So much for teenagers.Recommend this post

We all know that Harper has a very big ego and it has grown bigger and bigger over the last four years. He has been feeding us crap about how great a Prime Minister he is and how well he is running the country and that everything is under control from the recession to swine – I mean swine flu. Now the Auditor General Sheila Fraser has blown that ego bubble to smithereens.
We Canadian are not ready and ill-prepared if:
- there is a terrorist attack
- there is a massive flood or other major natural disaster
Please see my previous post on this issue.
Where does that leave us? It primarily tells us that we have a very incompetent and disorganized government. Harper was so busy bullying the opposition that he did not have time to govern. On the other hand the opposition has constantly taken bait from Harper. It does not look good for Canada. Canada needs a good new leader. Where do we look for him/her?
There is a story going around that Al Gore is making billions from his global warming campaign. His investments are paying off and he may be the first green billionaire.
You can click here to read the story.
Will this become an investor's dream? Will Wall Street get involved and will it become a profitable scheme? Such moneymakers on Wall Street don't much care about the environment. How would it affect the global warming issue? Opponents are already using Gore's good fortune to try to discredit him and the issue of Global warming. Where would this lead?

If a terrorist attack, massive flood or other major disaster strikes, the federal government is unprepared to lead a co-ordinated emergency response, Canada's auditor general has found.Recommend this post
I must admit I never understood monarchy. The assumption that some humans are superior to others by birth is repulsive to me. What does Prince Charles have that the rest of us don't? He is an ordinary man with a very ordinary intellect. He does stand for some good causes and that is a plus but the rest of the broohaha I don't understand. I don't think monarchy for Canada is relevent anymore. I do believe all humans are created equal. Prince, princesses and kings should be a thing of the past in the 21st century.Recommend this post
Apparently there is an agreement signed with Quebec to sell it for $5 billion. It is like kid brother cannot look after it so he asked the big brother to take care of it. I don't know the financial situation of New Brunswick to knowledgeably comment on it, but it is sad that sovereignty over its power will be given to another province. It is clear that NB Power was badly managed over the years as it accumulated a $4.75 billion debt which is 40% of New Brunswick's provincial debt. Where would a small province like New Brunswick get $4.75 billion to pay off this debt? However, the New Brunswick government should have considered co-operating with Atlantic Provinces, especially Newfoundland, before going to Quebec as Danny Williams was interested. An Atlantic co-operation on energy would have been a much better solution.
By the way NB Power is on sale on E-Bay ;)
Latest bid I saw was $1,025. I will bid $1,026 or higher provided I succeed to buy it, then I should be able to sell it to Danny Williams. I think he will look after it well.
