Miracle of Baby survival

Parents of a premature baby boy are told by the doctors that the baby cannot survive. So parents are ready to say goodbye and then the mother’s touch makes the baby to start reviving itself and ultimately survive. It is an amazing story that science cannot fully explain. This is one great example of how deep the mysteries of life are. It is the non-physical side of humans and other living-beings in general which is absolutely astounding.

The nature of democracy in Iraq

Huffington Post.

We are told that war has ended in Iraq. It has not. US combat troops might have left but there are still more than 50,000 troops and according to some estimates close to 100,000 mercenaries, in Iraq, all paid by the US taxpayers. Moreover Bush and Cheney were supposed to bring democracy to Iraq, instead corruption is in abundance and US operatives and mercenaries are very much party to it.

Here is a gripping story on the Huffington Post site about such corruption.

The Universe we live in

There was a fascinating documentary on the Discovery Channel over the weekend on the birth and death of stars and the universe. When we think we know it all something new comes on the horizon. What a vast and complex universe we live in. Some of these stars are manifolds bigger than our sun. Humans have a life span of a few decades compared to these stars which have been around for billions of years and maybe there are billions and trillions years more before some die and even the universe may die.

Our solar system is the same way. The sun may die someday and with its death will die all the planets surrounding it including earth. But don’t worry, it will be billions of years before that happens. However, humans are capable of ending life on our planet earth long before that. Every time a big star dies it could lead to new solar systems and life. Fascinating. For me the mystery of life thickens.

Glenn Beck’s Hate Speech at the Lincoln Memorial – few excerpts :)

Glenn Beck speaks tomorrow, August 28, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C. He calls his speech "Restoration of Honour". This will be the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's “I have a dream” speech from the same location. Beck wants to stroke his humungous ego by doing that. I think it is an insult to Martin Luther King Jr’s memory. Beck is full of hate. So I have put together some of his statements from the past which reflect Beck’s true persona.

Barack Obama says Muslim prayers in the Oval Office

Outside the Oval Office he looks around to make sure that no one is looking and then he rushes in and says his Muslim Prayer. Caught by a special camera.:)

Where would these Tea Partiers/Tea Baggers will stop. First it was a controversy about Rev.Jeremiah Wright of the United Church who was Obama’s spiritual guide for 20years because Rev. Wright is alleged to have said “…not God Bless America. God damn America” therefore he was un-American. So for 20 years Obama was Christian but guided by a “bad” pastor. Then he was not born in US, this notion was led by crazy woman Orly Taitz, and now he is a Muslim. These morons are not only causing problems through fear mongering but they are insulting 1.7 billion Muslims as according to them being Muslim is intrinsically bad. The 8 Most Overrated People In History

The Huffington Post has this interesting article on "The 8 Most Overrated People In History". I tend to agree with the writer Mark Juddery.

“Gandhi was the saint who, through his principles of ahimsa (non-violence), brought independence to India in 1947. At least, that’s what you’ve probably heard. But the Indian independence movement was a strong force well before Gandhi entered the scene. The nation’s freedom would have happened within a few years of 1947 even if Gandhi had spent his life meditating in a cave. He was a figurehead for the cause, while various other leaders were doing most of the work (and if you say “I’ve never heard of anyone else,” I won’t be remotely surprised). In true Thomas Edison fashion, he was happy to take the credit.”

Renovation of Synagogue in Beirut, Lebanon

While the controversy over an Islamic center in N.Y. rages on this story about the renovation of a Synagogue in Beirut is a breath of fresh air. Fareed Zakaria had a piece on his show last Sunday. In N.Y there may be a few 9/11 victims’ families who are concerned but it is the bigots and racists who are flaring the fire of hatred and anger and some Repugs and Tea-Baggers are making political hay out of it. We must not forget that dozens of Muslims, who were working in the building at the time, were victims of the 9/11 tragedy as well. When will societies rid of themselves of this disease of bigots? This bigotry is a major source of trouble in many societies around the world.
I believe freedom of religion is a fundamental right and few fanatics must not be allowed to hijack this freedom and create additional problems in the world. As if Bush and Cheney have not done enough. The example of the renovation of the synagogue in Beirut must be a guide for the rest of the world.

Moscow is changing its name to Maskow

It is indeed a tragedy as there are too many forest fires in Russia and Moscow is covered in smog over and above the scorching heat. It is partially natural disaster but part of it is the incompetence of the Russian government not to take necessary precautions to minimize forest fires and effectively extinguish those which are unavoidable. This incompetence of governments is spreading like an epidemic around the world. In Moscow, in order to survive, people had to wear masks. So maybe the more appropriate name for Moscow will be Maskow. The intention is not to belittle the tragedy but highlight the incompetence of the government there.

Here is a one story on the incompetence of the Russian government. This article provides a good review of the situation in Russia.

This is an excellent special comment by Keith Olbermann. It is important to speak out against those who would limit democratic rights. Freedom of religion is a fundamental right in the United States, we can't let this be eroded by prejudice and bigotry.

Also, this prejudice inflames extremists giving them fertile ground for recruitment. I also like the quote of Martin Niemoller that Olbermann uses regarding Nazi Germany:

"First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me."

Origins of the Tea Party

Father Coughlin

It surely is not a new movement. Although it might have not been called Tea Party some of the early leading figures of this kind of ideology include Father Coughlin, Billy James Hargis , Joe McCarthy and Barry Goldwater. Last night Christ Matthews had a documentary on the Rise of the New Right. I could not find the exact video but views of Father Coughlin and Billy James Hargis were pointed out which have similarities to some of today’s Tea Party leaders. As Professor Allan Lichtman of American University highlights the main views of Father Coughlin,
“Father Coughlin had two main messages. One was an economic message, that we needed a more populist approach to economics, but his other message was highly anti-Semitic and highly authoritarian that a conspiracy of international bankers to great extent led by Jews were responsible for the Great Depression, were responsible for the continuation of hard times and that may be Adolf Hitler and Germany had some right ideas.” Allan Lichtman
We should not underestimate the Tea Party and better watch out for them. It is an old evil of racism and bigotry which is raising its ugly head. Especially the election of Barack Obama to the presidency has enraged the red-neck bigots and it is leading to no good. The birthers like Orly Taitz and their ilk are really stirring up the pot by spreading hatred.
