Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar follows the example of Strauss-Kahn

What is with these bankers? First it was Strauss-Kahn of France, former chair of IMF, and now Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, Former Chair Of Major Egypt Bank, who cinches (I mean "grab". Apparently cinch as a noun has different meanings) a maid in New York hotel. Why New York hotel maids? Is the escort service too expensive in N.Y.

Benjamin Netanyahu: The Most Powerful Man in the World

It looks like it’s Israel and its Prime Minister who are the most powerful in the World, and not the United States. When Barack Obama in his speech said that there is a need for a two-state solution (Palestine and Israel) with the starting point being the pre-1967 boundaries with mutually agreed-to land swaps, Republicans and many cons were up in arms against Obama, saying how dare he say something about America’s closest friend in the World, Israel.

Strangely enough, similar things were said by Bill Clinton in the past and George W. Bush said it in January 2008 when he was visiting Israel. The only difference is that George W. Bush made reference to the 1949 boundaries with appropriate land swaps (ie. The same boundaries). So, why so much fuss now?

Netanyahu right away said that Obama’s position was totally indefensible. He then visited Obama in the White House and practically reprimanded him for his “1967 boundaries” statement and gave him a big lecture. When Obama went before AIPAC (pro-Israel lobby organization) he had to emphasize that the friendship between Israel and America is iron-clad, and Obama never again mentioned the 1967 boundaries.

Then Netanyahu went to the US Congress and said something exactly the same thing as Obama, Bush, and Clinton said regarding boundaries. So one wonders, who is the most powerful nation in the World? Right now it looks it is Israel, and it can dictate its terms with any Palestinian resolution with more authority than the US.

Bob Rae Named Interim Leader of the Liberal Party

I hope Bob Rae will do a great job until the new permanent leader is selected. I feel Bob Rae will make a great interim leader given his lengthy public service. I admit too, I think it is good that he is out of the race for permanent leader. Bob Rae is a good person, but his premiership of Ontario was unfortunately a failed one. The Ontario NDP was a one-term government and is far from forming another government in Ottawa.

I read Bob Rae's 1996 autobiography and was a little disappointed in that he blamed everyone else but himself for his failures. His premiership of Ontario would have been major baggage to overcome if he ran in the 2015 election as federal Liberal leader. The Conservatives would have had extraordinary ammunition to attack him and maybe his fate would have been the same as Ignatieff's and Dion's.

I wish the Liberal Party well and hope in the long-term they will choose a good leader who can excite the grassroots and make the Liberals again the ruling party. If the Liberal Party sticks to a centrist track it has a lot to contribute to Canada.

Harold Camping - the prophet of doom.

According to 89 year old radio personality Harold Camping it’ll be all over by tomorrow. However, he intends to keep his $72 million; he has spent millions and millions putting up billboards in many cities in the US and even Canada.

One wonders what his motivations are and where he got all this money. It looks that most of his money came through donations. It is also possible that he has agreements with some big retail chains that if he spreads the word people will spend a lot of money; probably in return he got millions in donations from them.

There are many gullible people buying into his predictions. The guy is 89 years old, but apparently the need to accumulate more money is still there. So folks tomorrow, if not this world, we should be waving at each other from the heavens or wherever we end up :)

If you’re worshiped as a deity then who wants to be a Czar. Maybe Obama should get in touch with Putin to join in as another apostle. Some think he was born in a manger and not in a regular hospital. Election 2011: Progress in Parliament

For the first time in Canadian history, two of the parties in Parliament have 100% female caucuses.

First the Green Party caucus:

And then the Bloc caucus... all four of their MPs are female (I couldn't find a picture of their caucus together).

Last time we had anything this close was in 1993 when 50% of the Progressive Conservative caucus was female with Elsie Wayne and Jean Charest.

Update: Apparently my information about B.Q was incorrect. It is actually one woman and three men. I can’t find the report anymore which provided that misleading information.

Sun T.V. : Will it survive?

Is there a need for another conservative news channel when CTV is filling that need fairly well in Canada? Moreover, I doubt Canada has crazies like Tea Partiers in U.S who will be watching Sun TV in millions.

Judging from the commercials it does not look good. I watched a program and there was one long commercial repeated few times and most other commercials were about Sun T.V’s own programs. It does not seem to be the money making scheme that producers of Sun T.V thought it would be.

Then there is the main anchor and buffoon Ezra Levant. The guy is a dead loss. His mouth already looks like a horse’s ass and he tries to be funny by making faces. Even Glenn Beck looks much saner compared to this wag.

The tar sands poison the drinking water of nearby Aboriginal communities, destroy natural environments, and create an excessive amount of greenhouse gases contributing to global warming and making Canada a climate change pariah on the global stage. Looks like it’s full-speed ahead and more on all this thanks to Harper’s majority.

Canadian Elections 2011

I think on May 2nd I had a nightmare, in that nightmare I saw that the Liberal Party was practically annihilated, BQ was gone, the NDP became the official opposition, and Harper won a sizeable majority.

Oh no, this nightmare is going to last at least four years.

GONE

GONE

At least this was one of the few good outcomes of election night. I always felt that the Bloc was irrelevant and it is about time that Quebecers joined the federal parties.

OFFICIAL OPPOSITION

I'm sure he and the NDP must be very happy. I hope that they will do a good job of being an effective opposition; although it is going to be hard given the autocratic tendencies of the big cahoona. Layton did considerable damage to Michael Ignatieff when during the debates he told him that he was absent 70% of the time from the House of Commons, and his relentless attacks continued during the election. Because of that considerable damage was done to the Liberal Party, especially in Ontario, where vote splitting in many ridings helped Conservatives to win their majority with sometimes one-third of the vote in these ridings. It looks that Layton unintentionally did help the big cahoona for his majority.

THE BIG CAHOONA

Here is your Prime Minister with a new majority mandate. Given his ultra-conservative background, it is worrisome how much damage he will do to social programs, especially healthcare, and he's indeed a big fan of America. I hope we don't become the 51st state. One can only pray and wish Canada well, it looks like a very rough ride for the next four years.

Since election night, I did not feel like blogging and I still feel the same way, that's why it took me so long to write something about the election outcome. Hopefully time will heal this hurt, we as Canadians will do alright. We should keep in mind that in 1993 PCs were completely annihilated with only 2 seats; who would have thought that a regional party like Reform would collude with the Tories and today have a majority in the House of Commons? We should not be so despondent, hopefully Liberals will get themselves a good leader and start the reconstruction and rebuilding work right away.

Osama Bin Laden Dead: What next?

Osama Bin Laden was used by the Bush administration as a Raison d'ĂȘtre for military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now that Bin Laden is gone what is Obama going to do? Some say the real reason for invasion of Afghanistan was to construct a gas pipeline through Afghanistan to transport natural gas from the former USSR states to the Indian Ocean. To get to Bin Laden there were easier ways through the help of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan but that was not the purpose. We all know now that Saddam had no WMDs and it was for oil and so it is true for Libya – in Libya again it is for oil and not protecting civilians. As a matter of fact it may just happen that more civilians will be killed as a result of the intervention than if we let Arabs take care of the Gadhafi problem.

Donald Trump is a big mouth but he speaks the truth when he says these wars are all about oil and fossil fuels and otherwise the US must not kill people or get its own soldiers killed. I don’t think the death of Bin Laden will bring peace. U.S and NATO has to make peace with Afghanistan and the Middle East in order to achieve peace. There are diplomatic ways to get fossil fuels other than murder and mayhem. I suppose without war the weapons industries in the U.S will lose profits and they don’t want that to happen.
