Samosas Banned in Somalia

Samosas have been banned in much of Somalia because they have three corners, supposedly hinting at the Christian Trinity. Will fundamentalists get any more ridiculous and stupid? Especially when there's such a serious famine in Somalia.

I understand samosas originated in the Indian subcontinent, it will look that all the Muslims there are violating Islamic principles because they eat samosas. It is these kinds of fundamentalists - indifferent to any country or location on the globe - who are the root of many problems in this world.

I think the only thing which should be banned from society are the religious fundamentalists. They should be all kept in complete isolation so that society is protected from them.

Herman Cain is one of the GOP Presidnetial candidates for 2012. He thinks being CEO of Godfather Pizza is a great qualification for President. He probably also thinks that people are like mice and can be lured to vote for him with cheese.

I think Cain is not with it. He gave an interview to Chris Wallace of Fox News, it was here that Cain showed his ignorance. A video of the interview is below, you be the judge:

I wonder where the GOP gets these nutjobs. First Sarah Palin, then Michele Bachmann, and now they have their big gun godfather Herman Cain... quite the field. Who next? Texas separatist governor Rick Perry?

Stephen Harper: The booming business in Canada

Who says Harper is not creating jobs. Here is a proof:

"Staffing numbers have risen from 14,663 in 2005-06 to 20,408 full-time equivalents in 2011-12, according to Reports on Plans and Priorities."

“OTTAWA — The cost of the federal prison system has risen 86% since the Harper government took over in 2006, government reports show.

When the Conservatives came to power in 2005-06, Canada’s federal corrections system cost nearly $1.6-billion per year, but the projected cost for 2011-12 has increased to $2.98-billion per year.” National Post.

Nelson Mandela: A leader extraordinaire

“After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.”Mandela

It was recently Nelson Mandela’s ninety-third birthday. We live today in an era marked by cynicism about politics, the political process, and the ability to bring about real social change. We are too used to politicians who are corrupt and self-serving, who lie to the people they are supposed to serve. However, this cynicism melts away when looking at the life of Nelson Mandela, realizing that change is possible, that one can be an idealist and not be na├»ve.

Nelson Mandela is one of the most extraordinary people alive today – someone who fits with the great tradition of freedom fighters like Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Mandela risked everything to fight against the unjust system of apartheid in South Africa; he was imprisoned for twenty-seven years, endured hardship, separated from his family. Upon release, where many would have sought vengeance, he forgave his captors.

That a freedom fighter and political prisoner could go on to become president of the once apartheid country of South Africa is extraordinary. Nelson Mandela played a key role in ending the horrors of apartheid, in ending a terrible injustice, and bringing new hope to the people of South Africa.

Joseph Harper and Atrocities During G-20

This last Sunday I watched the videos made by different people at the G-20 summit, and the atrocities carried out there. People who were bystanders and not even part of the demonstration were beaten up, hand-cuffed, and imprisoned.

One of the very heart-breaking incidents was where a man’s prosthetic leg was pulled off and he was handcuffed, dragged, and imprisoned. Many other innocent people received similar cruel and inhumane treatment. I could not believe that this happened in Canada. Yes things like this happen in Russia or other countries ruled by dictators.

Moreover the cost of this G-20 & G-8 security was $1 billion-plus dollars. Was it really worth it? Many world leaders made fun of us, including Sarkozy of France who I understand spent only a few million dollars for a recent G-8 meeting.

You may watch the video here, it is just unbelievable.

Rupert Murdoch Mess

Not long ago this man, Rupert Murdoch, considered himself invincible. He seemed to control the politicians in the UK, US, and Australia. The man and his empire are one of the worse, including invasion of the privacy of people like 9/11 victims, a murdered girl, and former UK PM Gordon Brown. Their phones were hacked to get sensationalist news to sell papers. This is not journalism; this is a very destructive operation and is scary.

Murdoch’s deeds are slowly but surely coming out, it looks his empire is falling apart, especially in Britain it is near the end. I will not be surprised he will soon be a roommate of Conrad Black in the US. He deserves every bit of it.

The following is a video from Keith Olbermann of Countdown on Current TV. It’s worth watching.

Christine Lagarde – IMF Chief on US debt ceiling

Christine Lagarde supports Obama on raising the debt ceiling for the United States. If this is not done, she says the impact would be disastrous for the US and the rest of the world, including for financial markets. She was a former Minister of Finance for France and now she is President of the IMF, she knows what she is talking about.

Basically what she is conveying is that politicians must stop playing political games with financial markets in this critical situation, and try to realize that at this stage of the game the US has no choice but to raise the debt ceiling.

I'd add, Republicans are committing a serious blunder by continuing with tax cuts for the super-rich and corporations. If history teaches us any lesson, it is that trickle-down economics does not work. The middle-class will suffer more and more, government revenues will go down, and the US economy will be tanked.

Red Fox Problem in New Waterford, Nova Scotia

New Waterford, Nova Scotia, is having serious problems with wild foxes; they are making holes under properties and causing a lot of damage. Surely this problem is prevalent in other North American communities – and around the world – with wild animals and birds attacking people in cities.

We humans have destroyed the habitats of animals and birds and now they are looking towards our habitat for food and breeding. As we continue to destroy the forests, and other wildlife habitats, it looks this problem will get aggravated. It’s dangerous as some of these animals are capable of attacking and killing people. This happened in Cape Breton and, I understand, in British Columba as well (as well as numerous other locations).

I think we should give more consideration when we clear forests and mess with wildlife habitats.

Conservatives have no business in government

Photo from the Toronto Star.

That is what the Toronto Star's Thomas Walkom says. The Conservative government plans to sell AECL for $15 million while giving SNC-Lavelin $75 million to buy it - I thought Stephen Harper was an economist by training, doesn't he know anything about money?

Meanwhile the government - and by extension the public - is stuck with AECL's $4.5 billion in liabilities, in addition to cost overruns including $1 billion owed to the New Brunswick government for the Pt. Lepreau nuclear plant refurbishment. CONS are conning taxpayers out of their money, spending it on bad deals.
