The Keystone XL pipeline: Harper will have to wait

Environmentalists are quite unhappy with the The Keystone pipeline project. Too much pollution.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
"While the possible construction of the Keystone XL pipeline has made for contentious disagreements from the halls of Congress to ranches in Nebraska, the real environmental debate begins in a place most Americans have never heard of.....

The whole operation is a carbon intensive process sending more global warming gases into the atmosphere. How much depends on your point of view. The oil industry downplays the impact, but opponents claim it is up to 37 percent more carbon intensive to produce a barrel of crude from oil sands."

Chris Hadfield: A Canadian Astronaut

Over the weekend I watched a one hour documentary on Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian astronaut to be commander of the International Space Station. The documentary was narrated by David Suzuki.

Chris Hadfield spoke to school children and numerous other folks to familiarize them with the importance of space exploration.

A few other former and current astronauts were asked to comment as well. One astronaut said that the Earth is a spaceship too. He said that on human-made spaceships, oxygen and other necessities are replenished as needed, but the same is not true about Spaceship Earth. If we keep polluting it and global warming continues at the current rate, then Spaceship Earth will become uninhabitable and there is no nearby planet from where we can import oxygen and other necessities of life. By giving this analogy, the astronaut emphasized the need to reduce pollution and production of CO2.

You may watch the full documentary here.

Peacock: Beauty and Wonders of Nature

Peacock is a stunningly beautiful bird. To me it looks like that someone prepared a design and then in a workshop built it with all those patterns, green and blue dots and then breathed life into it. Nature’s beauty is incredible and it is displayed all around us.

"A peacock feather is a great example of a fractal in nature. Its iridescent plumage is remarkable and stunning. The white feathers have a pearlescent quality about them and reflect a different hue depending on the viewing angle....

Woven into the myths and belief systems of cultures worldwide, the peacock presents itself through the science of alchemy, astronomy, Islam and Christianity, as well as Egyptian, Chinese and Indian cultures. India has adopted the peacock as its national bird."

May there be peace in the world

World needs peace and not wars.

When wars and conflicts totally cease,
In our world, there shall be peace.
People must learn to get along,
Not blame others, for being wrong.

They fight for control, fight for land,
Some just need a helping hand.
We must rid ourselves of vanity,
And embrace peace, through humanity.

Wars make children so much tougher,
Lose their innocence, while they suffer.
We should fight for peace instead,
Love not war, we should spread

George W. Bush and his Legacy

George W. Bush's library is now open. What is he going to decorate it with? Maybe the skeletons of the over million dead Iraqis because of Bush's invasion. Bush indeed is an evil man.

"Before considering each of the dozens of individual deceptions, lies and misleading statements that Bush and his aides used to push the US into war in Iraq, let's not lose track of the big picture. The Bush administration justified war, immediate war, because alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Those weapons do not exist. They have not existed for years. The Bush adminstration knew this, because a top Iraqi defector told us this over 4 years ago, but they kept that information secret. And weapons of mass destruction were not the reason the Bush administration wanted to invade Iraq. Top officials have even admitted this, saying flat out that they had other reasons but chose WMD because it was the most effective argument politicially.

There were many other deceptive charges by the Bush administration -- about unmanned drones, orders to use chemical weapons, aluminum tubes, links between Iraq and Al Qaeda, etc. But don't forget the big picture. The Bush administration knew that there were no WMD in Iraq. They deliberately and consistently lied to the American people about this, to justify war in Iraq. And 300 US soldiers have died as a result.

Boston Marathon Violence

Since the Boston Marathon Violence I have been feeling very depressed. What kind of morons brainwashed these two brothers and what did they achieve? They killed three innocent people and wounded many others. The older brother is dead and the younger one is in serious condition; he will suffer a lot more than his brother.

Then I started thinking of Bush, Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld. Over one million innocent men, women and children killed in Iraq. In Afghanistan, over 100,000 innocent women and children butchered and yet Bush, Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld are living happily ever after – Bush and Dick Cheney are not even arrested, what kind of justice is that? What kind of troubled world do we live in?

Israel and Peace in the Middle East

What is the biggest threat to stability and peace in the Middle East? It is not Iran, Iraq, or Syria... it's Israel. The government of Israel - especially prime ministers like Netanyahu - are a de-stabilizing force in the region. The hard line policies of those like Netanyahu drive open the divisions between the West and the Middle East.

Israel occupies Palestine, as well as portions of Syria and Lebanon. Rather than seeking a two-state solution, the Israeli government has continued to build settlements on the West Bank, dividing up Palestinian lands, preventing any sort of cohesive state from being formed.

This is analogous to what happened in South Africa, where blacks were provided with divided and scattered territories known as "homelands" or "bantustans." South Africa received international condemnation, what about Israel?

Israel has over two-hundred nuclear war heads, this from none other than former US president Jimmy Carter. However, while having nuclear weapons, something that makes other countries in the region nervous, Israel does not want Iran to even refine uranium, and is demanding US help on this.

The US government and Canada under Harper unconditionally support Israel, no matter what violations against human rights its government commits. Harper and Baird are complete servants of Netanyahu. Meanwhile, Barack Obama has turned a blind eye to Israel's atrocities. There was initially some hope for change when Obama was first elected, but he has turned out to be a disappointment.

The way Netanyahu is encouraging - demanding - the United States to attack Iran and its nuclear facilities could set the stage for the worst war the world has ever seen. Countries like Pakistan (a nuclear power) may side with their long-time ally Iran, even Iraq may support Iran. The way Saddam Hussein was demonized is the same treatment the Iranian government receives nowadays.

Now I do agree that Iran should not become a nuclear power, but we cannot apply a double standard. Israel must not be a nuclear power either. The hypocrisy of leaders like Barack Obama and Stephen Harper on this is appalling. There is an explosive situation in the Middle East and Israeli leaders like Netanyahu very much bear the responsibility.

Many members of the Jewish community in the United States, Britain, and even Israel itself, have condemned the actions of the Israeli government (one will actually find articles more critical of Netanyahu in the Israeli media as compared to the media in North America). In Britain, MP Gerald Kaufman - who is Jewish - has vocally condemned the Israeli government's policies. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has said Gaza is the victim of the apartheid worse than what was seen in South Africa.

Erik Rush: Another Fox News Crazy

This idiot on Fox News thinks the Boston Marathon should be a call to kill all Muslims? Aside from the fact we don't even know who the perpetrator was, responding to tragedy with hate and vengence, with blatant discrimination, is wrong. This amounts to adopting the very same attitude as the terrorists themselves, to stooping to their tactics.

Albert Einstein: More pearls of wisdom

“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. “

Albert Einstein is one of my favourite scientists/philosophers. His Relativity Theory is well-known and he is also famous for his research on the atom.

I understand he died a very unhappy man because his findings on the atom were used to develop atomic bombs which Americans used on Nagasaki and Hiroshima during WWII, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths. The impact of these bombs continues to this day in birth defects.

Surprise! Justin Trudeau wins the Liberal leadership

I thought he gave a great speech, Liberals have good reason to be optimistic going forward.

Update: This post was done by my friend J.K. He is more optimistic than I am. Now that Justin Trudeau is the leader of LPC, time will tell how Trudeau's enthusiasm translates into reality. His name may help him. He said that he would bring different factions of the party together. If he succeeds in doing that he could win the next election.

Justin Trudeau’s resumés compared to other leaders.“Justin Trudeau was elected leader of the Liberal Party Sunday at the age of 41, after four and a half years as an MP. Yet he is neither the youngest nor least experienced leader of a major party.”

CBC does a good comparison.

Margaret Thatcher RIP

It is not my style to speak ill of dead. However, I think Margaret Thatcher was a twin of Ronald Reagan. They both put their countries on the path of neo-conservatism from which these countries have not recovered yet.

It is worth noting, Thatcher gave her full-hearted supported to Chile's brutal dictator, Augusto Pincohet, and wanted to appease apartheid South Africa (it was Canada's own Brian Mulroney who countered Thatcher on this, wanting to maintain full sanctions).

The death of a leading world figure is always a sad event, but we cannot overlook the damage those like Thatcher and Reagan did, in their own countries, and on the world stage.

Dr. Wilder Pennfield: The Mystery of the Mind

Dr. Pennfield was a highly respected brain surgeon. He taught and practiced at McGill, University in Montreal. I read one of his books entitled "The Mystery of the Mind". It is a fascinating book. He talks about the brain which is material that we can see and then mind which we cannot see. In the mind aspect he explores the existence of spiritualism. Here is a video where he is operating on one of  his patients, who is actually his sister:

The quality of the video is not very good but it is worth watching. I recommend his book, The Mystery of the Mind, to my readers.

Here is an interesting quote by Dr. Pennfield:

"I realized that there was a thrilling undiscovered country to be explored in the mechanisms of the mammalian nervous system. Through it, one might approach the mystery of the mind..."

What a jackass! Taxpayers pay him $134000.00 in annual salary and another $403,392 for expenses.

"During his first three months in the red chamber, Conservative Senator Mike Duffy racked up more than $100,848 in travel and office expenses, more than double the average of what the other three Island senators spend in a typical quarter......Sustained over a year, Duffy's expenses would come in at $403,392." Kim Jong Un Threats for Nuclear War

Is Kim Jong Un crazy or what? If he attacks South Korea or U.S hell may broke loose. Despite U.S's problems (which are too many) it has nuclear capabilities that it can destroy North Korea 100 times over. Then imagine China and Russia getting involved,it will be a disaster of the proportion that the world has not seen before.
