Weird Tree

I could not find the name of this tree other than "Weird Tree". I don't know where it is located. Another oddity of nature.

Mike Duffy and Rob Ford: The match made in heaven.

They're two soul-mates. Only difference is that Rob Ford can be fired. Mike Duffy is settled for life. He won a lottery and he did not even have to buy a lottery ticket, Stephen Harper handed him the prize.

Harper Government: $3.1 billion missing - auditor general's spring report

It is a small change for Harper. But how is taxpayers' money being spent? Maybe Harper built another fake-lake. This time for himself.

Bangladesh Tragedy: Exploitation of poor countries by big corporations

When I read about the Bangladesh garment factory tragedy it breaks my heart. Over 1000 workers dead and many more missing. Cheap clothing in the U.S, but at what cost?

The Door To Hell: World's Mysterious Places

"This place in Uzbekistan is called by locals “The Door to Hell”. It is situated near the small town of Darvaz.

The story of this place lasts already for 35 years. Once the geologists were drilling for gas. Then suddenly during the drilling they have found an underground cavern, it was so big that all the drilling site with all the equipment and camps got deep deep under the ground. None dared to go down there because the cavern was filled with gas. So they ignited it so that no poisonous gas could come out of the hole, and since then, it’s burning, already for 35 years without any pause. Nobody knows how many tons of gas has been burned for all those years but it just seems to be infinite there."

If it was in Canada, Harper would have tried to sell it to Chinese as a natural gas reserve.

Guy Merchie: Mysteries of Life

Something to ponder over the weekend:

DIVINITY

Who or What runs the Universe?
Is there a plan behind the daisy, the hummingbird,
The whale, the world?
Who conceived the eye back in the primeval darkness
Of early evolution?
Who designed the fish's air bladder in the ancient deep
As if foreseeing its future as a breathing lung
Upon the dry land?
And out of what beginning evolved the mind?
By any stretch could mind have been mindlessly created?
Does science have an answer
To the Voice out of the Whirlwind Which asked Job
"Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts?"
Is the world really drifting along without pilot,
Steering itself automatically,
Running its own affairs at random?
Could the Universe, just conceivably,
Have created Itse if?

Surely there is Mystery in this Universe,
Not only somewhere and somewhen but everywhere everywhen
And far; far beyond the scope of man's feeble
Capacity to comprehend.
For man, puny, mortal and finite,
As he is in this nether phase,
Is permitted to visualize neither an end to space
Nor space without end;
Nor can he even grasp a start or a finish of time,
Nor any sort of beginning that has no beginning
Nor any end that has no end.
Hence the Mystery,
The abiding, pervasive, universal Unknowability

That many call by the name of God.
But what matters it what you call It?
It is abstruse, bewilderingly abstruse, and remains so
Whether or no we accept that somehow by Its agency
Out of utter nothingness has arisen
Everything in the Universe.

Its station plainly implies intelligence,
Indeed Intelligence so far beyond the human
As to justif' the adjective "Divine,"
And this seems to be relative.
If a human adult represents divinity to a baby or an animal,
So must the animal be divine to a vegetable,
The vegetable to a mineral...
Likewise, as wrote Paul to the Corinthians,
"The foolishness of God is wiser than men,
And there is presumably a hierarchy in Divinity above
As well as below us -
Even as the doings and thoughts of humanity and of Earth
Are but a negligible jot
In the eternal consciousness of God,
Even as the horizon of knowledge expands outward from our planet
Accompanied by the inexorable horizon of Mystery
Which expands even faster and farther than knowledge,
Leading man's consciousness
To new dimensions.

Thus doth Divinity
Embrace all the other six mysteries of life
Even though callow man comprehendeth it not,
Even though the Mystery remaineth
So far beyond earthly finitude
That no eye but God's own Eye
Hath the capacity to see
GOD.

Planet Earth: Time lapse photos over 29 years recorded by various satellites

These time-lapse photos - taken over 29 years - are very telling, about what we humans are doing to this Earth. Urban sprawl in Las Vegas, forests and delicate ecosystems being destroyed in the Amazon, melting ice-caps, pollution, and more.

How far will this go? When will the needed action be taken to curb this destruction of our planet? This is the only planet we have.

Oil Companies: A threat to our planet

All oil companies care about is profit. The environment, the health and safety of people, is not a priority of theirs. Only profits, no matter who is hurt in the process. Oil companies are psychopathic, dangerously addicted to money at the expense of all else, and like drug dealers they are trying to keep the world hooked on oil, regardless of the environmental or social consequences.

Tribal people in Ecuador - in the Amazon rain forest - are pitched in a "David versus Goliath" battle against the oil companies which threaten to destroy their way of life along with delicate ecosystems. They're facing off against the bull-dozers and modern equipment of the oil companies with spears and darts. The exploitation of native people and the stealing of their land continues in our day and age.

Elsewhere in the world, there are similar situations, where oil companies care only about profit, not people's lives or the environment, and are causing untold destruction in the name of profit.

From NBC: "Wauroni tribesmen, who live in the rainforest of Ecuador, are getting ready to challenge the Ecuadorian government’s plan to auction as much as 8 million acres of rainforest for oil drilling, saying they are prepared to fight to the death to protect the land. NBC’s Ann Curry reports."

Check out the video below, for NBC's report on the oil companies' exploitation of Ecuador's rainforests.

Bangladesh: The Value of Human Life

The death toll from the Bangladesh factory collapse has surpassed 620. This is in a building which the architect said was not designed to handle industrial equipment. There was an obvious disregard of safety standards for which hundreds paid with their lives.

Are the lives of Bangladeshis seen as equal to those in North America? Why not the same level of outrage? For corporate profits, lives are put needlessly at risk. This is appalling. I feel sad when I think about the victims and their loved ones. Greed is doing too much harm.

Happiness: Buddha's Wisdom

Lately I don't feel like watching news as they are too depressing - wars, murders, famine, natural disasters, frauds, and so on. I thought I will share, with my readers, Buddha's wisdom on happiness:

"Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.

Happiness never decreases by being shared."
