McDonalds Canada CEO and Foriegn Workers

How did this guy become CEO? Or maybe it's his kind of attitude, insensitivity, which is required of a McDonalds CEO. Unbelievable listening to this, how he dismisses the controversy over the Temporary Foreign Workers program as "bullshit." This is a complex issue, where workers overseas, living in poverty, seek work to support their families. There is also an issue of exploitation of labour, foreign workers who may not know their rights, who may fear being deported, and who may accept lower wages and fewer benefits, who would be less likely to unionize.

It is reprehensible that the CEO would refer to "poor maligned employees" in a sarcastic manner, and be more concerned about PR for his firm with disregarding the exploitation of workers.

One more thing, what is this "politically astute" relationship the CEO brags about having with the Conservative Minister? Is Harper's government complicit in this? Only window-dressing to return to the status quo after the controversy passes?

The danger of Asteroids

If a big asteroid hits a city like New York it can cause great damage. Earth is exposed to these asteroids. We have been lucky so far.Watch the video below:

Vladimir Putin basically told Stephen Harper to go and take a hike

Stephen Harper thinks he is a world leader. He has been prominent in criticizing Russia over Ukraine and promised Ukraine some military help. Putin primarily told him to go and 'screw yourself'.

A toast to Stevie

"The Conservative government's tough rhetoric over Russia’s actions in Ukraine may play well to some voters domestically, but analysts doubt it will have any impact on curtailing Moscow's policies in the region.

"I think the only people Putin’s going to pay any attention to, if he pays any attention at all, are going to be the United States and the European Union, above all Germany," said Randall Hansen, director of the University of Toronto's Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies."

Stephen Harper -the Portraits

I did a picture of Harper on a horse in front of Parliament, as the leader who is set to conquer the world. Now a Canadian artist has done an interesting portrait of Harper on a horse. It looks good.

Mahshid Farhoudi

This one looks good too.

Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama: Don't approve Keyston XL Pipeline

I believe Jimmy Carter was one of the best presidents U.S ever had. I suppose nice guy finishes last. Too bad he did not win the second term. He is giving a great advice to Obama.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter speaks during an interview on
Monday March 24, 2014 in New York. Carter said Monday that he doesn't
support the Palestinian-led "boycott, divest, sanction" campaign against
Israel but said products made in Israel-occupied Palestinian territories
should be clearly labeled so buyers can make a choice about them.

Fracking Causes Earthquakes

Fracking caused over 100 earthquakes in Ohio.

State geologists in Ohio have for the first time linked earthquake activity in the Marcellus Shale basin to hydraulic fracturing, confirming the suspicions of activists pushing for drilling limits in the interest of public health.

State Oil & Gas Chief Rick Simmers told The Associated Press on Friday that a state investigation of five small tremors in the Youngstown area last month has found a probable link.

He said Ohio is setting new permitting conditions in earthquake-sensitive areas and has halted drilling indefinitely at the site of the March quakes.

A seismologist with the U.S. Department of Interior said it's the first time seismic activity has been linked to Marcellus shale exploration that's swept the northeastern United States over the past several years.

Liberal Majority in Quebec

Pundits were cautious about the Liberals, seeing a majority as a remote possibility, more likely a minority. The third party CAQ was seen as having a last minute "surge" in the campaign but that surge did not materialize to the extent some pundits expected. While CAQ did pick up a few more seats, the Liberals won a comfortable majority (with CBC projecting very early in the night). This exceeded even optimistic expectations of the Liberals. Liberals won 70 seats (early count)  and 63 are needed for the majority.  The leader of PQ, Pauline Marois, lost her own seat.
The vote, it seems, was against Pauline Marois and against the Parti Quebecois. Quebecers are tired of referendums and the province is a multicultural society, many were repulsed by the Parti Quebecois' Charter of Values which promoted intolerance towards minority groups. This election proved good news for national unity and for multiculturalism. You may read more here.

  Update: Brilliant cartoon.

Pierre Poilievre -Minister for "democratic' Reform

How to dodge a question? Pierre Poilievre will teach you how. I felt sorry for Evan Solomon. He did try but Poiliever proved that he is the champion of fudging.

GM: It is the profits which matter

If some lives are lost then that is not so important to big corporations like GM. That is the world we live in. It is a very sad state of affairs.
